15 impressive must-see websites, services and software

Over time I’ve accumulated a list of websites, services and software that have become useful to me. If you don’t know about these, you should. Feel free to add to this list in the comment section below.

The List

keybr.com | Typing at the speed of thought!

If you’re not already a fast touch typist, and even if you are, 20 minutes of keybr.com per day will help you achieve a greater typing speed!

somefield

My personal source for desktop backgrounds. Otherwise, impressive art.

Soulseek - Slsknet - File sharing software

I only recently acquired this little gem, and because it helps you find some hard to find things, I love it. From the website: “Soulseek(tm) is a unique ad-free, spyware free, and just plain free file sharing application.”

Azureus Vuze

A superior breed of bittorrent client.

FRAPS

The best real-time video capture software for Windows games.

7-Zip

The one and only archive extractor you’ll ever need. Unpacks ARJ, CAB, CHM, CPIO, DEB, DMG, HFS, ISO, LZH, LZMA, MSI, NSIS, RAR, RPM, UDF, WIM, XAR and Z.

Foxit Software

From the website: “As a small and fast PDF viewer, Foxit Reader currently has over 50 million users all around the world.”

Free Web Proxies

Once upon a time, these were useful to me. Students, enjoy visiting any website you want.

Periodic lag spikes and a Wireless FiXP replacement

When I moved house and was forced to use Windows XP wireless networking, I suffered intermittent lag spikes every twenty seconds during online gaming. Turns out the culprit was Wireless Zero Configuration service. This website offers a working solution.

SurfTheChannel

An archive of online streaming video for movies, tv shows, documentaries and more.

GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program

One of the better free alternatives to the expensive Adobe photoshop.

iPod Software PoddoX, iTunes alternative

From the website: “The software PoddoX is a fast and user friendly alternative to iTunes, Apple’s iPod software. With PoddoX you can easily copy your music, pictures and videos to your iPod. Poddox also helps you to organize the existing files on the iPod: delete them, copy them back to your computer or to any other storage medium. To this end, Poddox lists the content of your iPod clearly structured in a tree control. You can even copy files or hole folders from the Windows explorer to your iPod. This option is missing in iTunes. Other than iTunes or alternative software for iPod, PoddoX doesn’t create or copy files to folders as long as you didn’t choose to do so.”

Cinemusic .net » Film Music & Soundtracks

Ever wondered what the name of that epic film score from that (recent) blockbuster movie was so that you could download buy it? Yeah here.

Private Beta Invites | Mashable

A free (and often slow) method of obtaining invitations to all those private torrent sites you wish you had access to. Ahem.
